In-N-Out Burger is one of those American burger chains that I had always associated with California.
It is also well known in Japan, partly because Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani has talked about being a fan of In-N-Out.
Since In-N-Out has traditionally been concentrated in the western United States,
I had always thought, “I’ll have to try it someday when I visit the West Coast.”
Then, on a recent trip to Tennessee, I came across an In-N-Out.
I was surprised.
It turns out In-N-Out opened its first locations in Tennessee in December 2025, with restaurants opening in Lebanon and Antioch on December 10, followed by Murfreesboro on December 12.
And Tennessee was a pretty big step for the company.
It became In-N-Out’s 10th state and its furthest-east presence at the time.
In other words, In-N-Out had officially made its way farther east than Texas.
I had no idea there was an In-N-Out in Tennessee, and I imagine not everyone outside the area has realized it yet.
One of the things In-N-Out is known for is its focus on freshness.
The burger patties are made from 100% American beef, ground by In-N-Out’s own butchers, and are delivered fresh to the restaurants throughout the week rather than frozen. The produce is prepared daily, and the fries are hand-cut from fresh whole potatoes.
So, a burger chain I thought I would have to wait until my next West Coast trip to try was actually right here in Tennessee.
If you're in Tennessee, maybe give In-N-Out a try. You might be surprised to find it here, too.
